Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

My husband and I are next on the waiting list to be placed with a newborn sometime this year. We are really excited and in preperation I have started reading "the baby book" by Dr. Sears. I am finding that when it comes to feeding and general caring the Dr. really concentrates on women who have given birth. This is not our case and even though there are tips that we can take from the book I am wondering if anyone knows of any books that they have enjoyed.

Best of luck with your adoption.
I do understand what you are saying. It would be nice to have books out there for adopting parents. The baby book was written by a doctor who birthed 7 children and adopted 1, so I was really hoping that the book would take into account all cases. When it comes to feeding the new born it seems that there really is a push for breastfeeding, which is why I ask the question. I don't know about you but I really don't think I am going to have time to take the pills required to be able to breastfeed since most of the time we just don't know when the baby is going to come home.
