Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

16 years ago, I gave my son up for adoption. Well, last night, I found him on my space! I sent him a message asking him his parents name, to make sure. When he wrote back and asked me who I was, I told him I was a old friend of theirs, and left it at that. Was I right in my response? I know I am supposed to meet him when he is 18. I don't know what to do. I am exhilirated that I saw a pic of him on the computer-it is a relief to know that he seems happy.

The legal ramifications could be at the least a restraining order if your adoption documentation states anything to do with contact. If he goes to his parents with the information that one of their old friends contacted him, it's checked into...could be problems. You stated you've not seen pics in a long time due to things that happened in your life, have you contacted them to ask for an update? That would be one of my first steps...
