I am years down the road from adopting. I would like to adopt once I get married and if I do not find someone by 30 I might also consider adopting on my own. What is the cost to adopt a child in the United States? I am also curious about foster care. Does the state pay for anything for those people taking care of kids in foster care? I would not mind caring for certain special needs circumstances. I grew up with cerebral palsy but can pretty much do anything that anyone else can. I have heard that by the time a child turns 18 the child ends up costing the parents close to a million dollars over those 18 years. I would like to be financially prepared for if a child is going to cost that much and would like to set up trust funds to go to college or to have after graduation. Thanks for the help.
