my seven year old son who is repeating grade K has been having major behavior problems at home and school I requested the Conner evaluation and took the results to the doctor's office. today I took my son to a consultation where the doctor said that he has the impulsitivity but i am not clear of what exactly that means he said that he shoud soon outgrow it. we are doing a trial of ritalin to see if it has any affect on him. My question is does he have add/adhd or just a sympton of it?

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I think I can offer you some suggestions that you may want to consider.
1. Can you ask your school district to come in and observe your child in his classroom? Once they observe him, and they make their determination of what they believe is going on and with the teachers input and your input...then your son can get some services, such as behavioral management classes, speech, occupational therapy, and any other services he may need. Does your school district offer something called a SEIT teacher? They work with children with various issues...my son has a SEIT teacher...she is from a child evaluation center, and, she would work closely with your son in his classroom. You can also contact child evaluation centers in your area to find out..but, contact your SCHOOL DISTRICT first.
2. Then I think it would be in your BEST interest to take him to a neuropsychologist...they study the brain. Look on line by doing a google search by child neuropsychologist and then type in the area where you live and you will get doctors names. The testing is INTENSE, and, it can be costly, but ask the doctor you contact to call your insurance carrier and see if they will cover the cost, half or the full amount. you will get a diagnosis and you will be able to get the PROPER help for your son and you will be able to better manage him in the school setting and at your home.
I dont know if he has ADD/ADHD..there are MANY traits that can fall under ADD/ADHD and any other neurological disorder. Do your research and feel free to contact me anytime. I know a lot because we have been getting help for my son since he is three years old, WITHOUT medication; I am not saying that being that your son is taking medication that -- that's wrong, I am just saying there are options a TON out there without medication....GOOD LUCK..I hope to hear back from you...HUGS!
1.eliminate select items that you may suspect could be elevating sugar or carb levels.
2.dont go to just one doctor get pediatricians, therapists, and everyone possible even his teachers on your side to help more opinions you get the better.
3.dont just wack him on ritalin cause one doctor says so for a trial run, and if this works are you truly prepared to keep him on it?.
If its more behavioural than academic id be looking at more natural solutions.
good luck though.
