Does depression go hand-in-hand with ADHD?

Hello everyone -
Does depression have anything to do with having ADHD???

I have a 8 year old son who is diagnosed with ADHD. Just today, the teacher told me that he appears depressed most of the time. I told her that I didn't know why...because he comes home to a loving and supportive family that makes every sacrifice for him and gives him lots of praise/encouragement! I don't know what else I can do as a mother to make sure he's happy.

I believe in some cases it may. I know my sons psychologist prescribed him both Staterra and Wellbutrine (for depression), and the two worked very well together.

adhd has such a negative impact on their lives, it affects their socialisation,self esteem and how others view them, they cannot live life as other children do so depression is probably a reaction to this. it's probably very stressful living with adhd and most of the feedback adhd children get is negative and they do have insight. My son often gets down because of his adhd because he knows he cannot control it and there are times when he is really quiet and i worry about what he is thinking. adhd is a mental illness with a stigma attached to it, not only do children have to get used to living with the illness they also have to cope with other people's attitudes and prejudices. this would be difficult for an adult to cope with so it's probably worse for children who have not yet developed coping methods.

My son is 9 has ADHD and anxiety and depressed moods.I agree with nicolat. They have developed no coping skills and are going through alot in school and socially, My son will not take his meds because of the social stigma. He knows he is more control but he also knows that other people know he is different(though not that much) so he refuses his meds. Says he wants to do it on his own. He is chosing a hard path. We are trying to put him on Zoloft for depression and anxiety but he is waffeling about starting this weekend.I think the exisist somewhat together.

My son who is aged 10 and was diagnosed ADHD 2 years ago suffers very badly with depression. His psychologist says that he suffers anxiety and is extremly sensitive.
His depression has been so bad the last few weeks he has been sick and not eating (possibly baliemia).
The only advice I would offer is if you have concern your child is suffering depression see his doctor a.s.a.p and monitor it very closely so hopefull his doc can stop it getting any worse.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
