Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) are more common than you might think. It is a syndrome that exhibits symptoms such as hyperactivity, forgetfulness, mood shifts, poor impulse control, and distractibility. Join others who suffer from these conditions and share your experiences.
Google "ADHD Symptoms" or "ADHD behavioral indicators" and that will give you a broad idea of what to look for. Research is the best thing to do, especially in regards to ADHD.
Remember, there is no definitive test for ADHD, a doctor, shrink or pediatritian looks at history of behavior (as symptoms have to be present for at least 6 months) and will also have to physiological probablitities that may cause symptoms similiar to ADHD. Learning/Intelligence testing will also take place, and you will probably be asked to take the Connors Rating Scale for Parents in regards to your son's behavior. It is a long process, one that has to be done with precision and accurancy in order to get a proper diagnosis.
I dont think distraction persay is an reason to claim ADD or even ADHD.
At 8, most boys want to run around and play, which makes it so hard for ADHD to be distinguied. Where is the line between normal, active behavior and ADHD? It is a line still being debated, but the main determining factor is mentioned above; if the behavior is a problem or has the potential to become a problem.
