Hello
My son has not been medically diagnosed with ADHD yet but we or I feel that he has this disease. He has all the symptoms and even done the connors assesment in school.
What we are afraid of is putting him on medication to tame it.
Has anyone had any success with other alternatives with controlling it in a school enviroment?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

I too was apprehensive about putting my (then Kindergarten-Grade 1) child on meds for his ADHD. You hear so many stories. However, after a few attempts at finding the right med, we did find one that works for him. It certainly does make a difference for him. He can sit and do his school work easier, he can carry on a conversation and doesn't appear to be in "another world", he isn't as impulsive in his decision making (which tends to keep him from making poor choices), and he seems happier in general. Prior to meds, he would tend to get into more fights, be very oppositional, have more meltdowns, etc.... I haven't seen any side effects that would trigger me to stop the meds. Good luck with your decision.

We are raising out grand daughter now 7 and her therpist adn teacher and I all agree we think she needs to be tested. Teacher and I think ADD.
One thing I did find out from her therpist is there is a patch.
Maybe your son could use it if he doesn't like the pills.
I have concerns about the med's also.
But my Grand son started on the meds last year and the difference is amazing. He is now 11 yrs. He even feels and see's the differnence, which in return makes him want to take his med's.
I was just wondering when they are not in school if they have to stay on the medicine? Like the weekends?
My concern there is she goes to her mom's every other weekend,a nd thye are really bad about giving her her med's, and taking them there self. Her mom is an x meth head.
It makes him the beautiful person that I know he can be!
Without it, he is not himself anymore.
If you had a heart condition that required medication to make you better, you wouldnt think twice about taking it - would you?
I know I certainly wouldnt.
It isnt the end of the world for your son, think of it as the beginning.
Best of luck.
My grand son doesn't take the full amount he could take but he is doing so well on the smaller amount they don't want to raise it any. They started him out slowly with the meds.
It all made be a strong beleiver in the meds after seeing the difference with him. Put away your fears, I have.AS someone said if it was his/her heart.........
