Hi everyone I'm new to this community. It took a while for me to be emotionally ready in order come and join. I was not in an automobile accident instead I was the victim of medical malpractice that nearly cost me my life. Anyways I would like to post a response to the the Stupid things people say thread.
Here's my disclaimer: I'm not saying any of your opinions are wrong or that you shouldn't feel how you feel. Your emotions are yours and you should never have to apologize for them.
When I was trying to get back to my life and even in the beginning stages of my illness (before the doc's mistake) people said a lot of things that pissed me off. But you have to step back and realize that they mean well.
This one is huge, for whomever said that they were bothered by someone saying 'you're so lucky' you are absolutely correct to say they mean you are lucky to be alive! Not sure about the rest of you but after my near death experience life seems so incredibly wonderful to me. Sure I still have health problems that I struggle with daily, but what a wonderful gift we have been given to actually live!
I finally joined this community and DS because I thought by coming here I would find other people that have the appreciation for life that the average person just cannot understand. Please tell me some of you are out there. To those of you that have not found the place where you can see your tragic experience as the gift it is (everything happens for a reason, we are always given some sort of gift through our experiences) I hope you reach that place some day. Now again I'm not preaching, it took me quite a while to get there myself. I challenge you to look at your experience and locate the good that came from it. If you say nothing you are not looking hard enough.
It sounds as though many of you still have resentment built up over whatever has happened to you and you are taking it out on the people that are trying to give you encouragement. I implore you to wake up each day treating life as the beautiful gift that it is.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Good stuff right here:)
however, i am not perpetually in a good mood and sometimes feel put out by peoples' comments, even if i know they mean well.
we all have our moments, tragedy is one big roller coaster of emotions.
