Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
In out last study we talked about not having to fear death as a Believer in Jesus. Why? Because we only walk through the shadow of the valley of death. We do not walk through the valley of death. All of this is because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross.
Today we will look at the next part of this verse. “I will fear no evil.” In the Greek this phrase could be translated as to say: ‘I will not be made afraid.’ Listen to the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John:
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have PEACE. In the world ye shall have tribulation: BUT BE OF GOOD CHEER; I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.
We do not have to fear evil or the evil one because Jesus has overcome the world and all it’s evil.
Again I state why do we as Believers not have to fear evil? The next phrase states: “for thou are with me.” God is with us wherever we go. God is with us in every circumstance. God is with us ALL the time. God is right beside you right now! God lives within you through His Holy Spirit. Then is this verse the Apostle Paul tells us:
Philppians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
We are told think on these things: truth, honesty, just, pure, lovely, and good. When we keep our mind focused on thinking of these things; our troubles will not seem so bad.
I leave with this beautiful hymn called ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.”
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!
His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
