I would be interested in corresponding with anybody who has been dry for between 1 and 8 weeks to work together on staying sober. I 've been dry now for 2 weeks 5 days.
Warm regards to all

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Some of us may just have found our drinking is getting out of hand and are exploring different options.
We are here to offer helpful and friendly advice and enlightenment re the AA way to anyone who wishes to seek it, please can we keep it way.
Of course AA is made up of people and people will have different opinions but words that denigrate ANYONE are NOT helpful and can create a bad name for AA unnecessarily.
As the twelve and twelve says on p.91 "Our first objective will be the development of self-restraint."
This is a part of Step 10 - I am sending a larger quote entitled "Axiom to Automatic" to the top of the list to remind ourselves of this.
Thanks, friends.

Welcome Calon. I've been in the program for over 20 years, but Recently went through a necessary experience.
When i first got sober I hung around with other people who were only just sober too and though we all wanted to help each other none of us really had a clue what we needed to do to stay sober - bit like the blind leading the blind really. It didnt work out too well.
After that i still liked to talk to people who were at the same stage as me and so knew how I was feeling at that moment but I also knew that I needed to hook up with people who had been sober for a longer time and therefore knew what to do to stay sober. I stuck really close to people who had worked the 12 step program and were living sober and spiritual lives. This is what I wanted so I figured the best people to show me how to get it were people that already had it.
As I say you will find all sorts of lengths of sobriety here and hopefully you will get the help you need from all of us.
Nicky.
I know this hasnt been easy for you and sometimes without knowing all the AA lingo it can be a hard fight for newcomers and alot for us to get our heads around. I think that is why we like to have people at a similar stage to us, to talk things through with.
I think Nicky is right about keeping in touch with people who have varying degrees of sobrietry to help you, experience is so precious in life. Gail also, it should be friendly positive advice and as you are finding out, to bring change, we must change and that is what you are doing, one day at a time.
So.......well done my DS friend x
I just love wisdom and I can tell you have plenty to offer.
I know in my AA meeting I have heard something about the thoughts of us as individuals are just that, that we should take what we want, and leave the rest (sorry, dont know exact words). I did not mean to offend anyone I did not mention, was just supporting my DS mate.
I admire anyone that is living in the solution for I am far from it.
