Welcome. If you come to visit for the first time and have some questions feel free to ask. PM someone if you like but don't stay a stranger. We were all in the pit. We know a way out. No condemnation and no hammers. Just ask and prepare to make a load of friends.

DS is a wonderful means of support for alcoholics. It's a great tool for the geographically challenged, sick and disabled however, most of us here use it to supplement our face-to-face AA meetings, not replace them. To attend an AA meeting, and to look into someones eyes and feel their presence when they share their experiences, you just can't get that on a computer.
There's a real aura and power in the rooms of AA. I know some might say they feel more comfortable on-line instead of with people, but hey, we're not looking to make you comfortable. Being uncomfortable is a part of what is going to happen as you take those first steps in recovery, it's all a part of the change process and healing that needs to take place. If your new to recovery, please get in contact with an AA meeting in your area.

The beauty of meetings is that the people get to know you. I was having an "off" day on Friday. A few friends came up to me and said "what's wrong?" They could tell just by looking at me that something was amiss. A problem shared cuts it in half. I left feeling better. I woke up the following morning feeling great.
Life won't always be a bed of roses, but there isn't a thing in this world that a drink will make better... only worse.

However, it's simply an adjunct to my AA sobriety, anothet tool I have in my kit in blasting this awful disease every day. I would never not go to live meetings and just use the Internet. And another thing is that while we get a belly laugh from time to time on the boards, the things that are said and the people you meet in AA are absolutely gut bustingly hilarious. I would miss "The Show" for Quids.
