In this procedure, a small band is applied to the base of the hemorrhoid, stopping the blood supply to the hemorrhoidal mass. The hemorrhoid will then shrivel and die within 2 to 7 days. The shriveled hemorrhoid and band will fall off during normal bowel movements. more at Wikipedia

find Rubber Band Ligation helpful

Rubber Band Ligation Reviews
Working / Worked
I had two band treatments, seperated by 4 weeks. First treatment was painful, second was not as painful. I am still experiencing stabbing pains a month after the second treatment and I am womdering if others have experienced long recovery times. The pamphlet the doctor gave me said I should be back to normal by now.
Working / Worked
It helped still have the fissure though

I had 3 internal hemorrhoids, 2 were removed with rubber band ligation. It was almost painless but I did bleed a lot plus diarhhea! I didn't appreciate the surgeon's 'reasons' for the 'bleeding' so I went to a GI doctor and he gave me Entocort which cleared up the bleeding and diarhhea the next day. However, it started up again a few months later.

The procedure itself didn't really hurt (more uncomfortable than painful), but WOW the pain I've had ever since. It's been 11 days since I've had this done, and the offending mass has not fallen off yet. They gave me Vicodin, which kind of helps. The polyp is prolapsed and close to the anus, so I think that's why I'm having so much pain.

Writing this 5 hours after having RBL done, so still sore. However, not as bad as I thought. The first "tube" with the camera was OK, I even got to watch what was happerning on screen, which was great and took my mind off what was happening, however, the second, much bigger "tube" that was used to attach the rubber bands really hurt, they kept saying, relax and push out, how could you when all your instincts are to clench. But after an hour felt OK and even did a bit of retail therapy.
