Ugh! I had to go hypothyroid the oldfashioned way for five weeks after surgery. Feeling myself get more sluggish fuzzybrained forgetful constant leg spasms while also trying to recover from surgery was NOT FUN. But I was committed to doing whatever I had to do to survive and beat the cancer so I did it. Im thankful the followup body scans can be preceded by Thyrogen shots so that the discomfort is marked by days not weeks and is less severe.

Totally killed my thyroid glands!! I had to stay away from home for 13days which killed me. I really didn't have any serious side effects. I had a sore throat and a headache for about 2 days.

This wasn't that much fun. After 6 weeks of being on a strict diet, the give you the iodine and let you eat what you want. An hr later or so, you end up getting sick and this lasts for 8-10hrs. Then you fell better, but since you are radioactive, you must stay in a lead room until you levels decrease. It usually takes 2-4days.

It did work but knowing what I know now I might have tried medication first. I ended up with a side affect from the RAI which causes eye problems but overall I am doing good.
