My urologist advised taking Proscar for 6 weeks, then repeat this when bleeding restarts. Has worked OK, but the last time bleeding returned after just 9 wks.

Works but you have to keep in mind that the results of any PSA test you have while taking Proscar have to be doubled. It causes a false lower PSA value.
