Methimazole is a drug used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition that usually occurs when the thyroid gland is producing too much thyroid hormone. It is also taken before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy, to lower thyroid hormone levels and minimize the effects of thyroid manipulation. more at Wikipedia

Working / Worked
The meds worked pretty fast for me and I went a little hypo last year, but I still felt okay. I've been on them over 2 years. I now see my own primary doc for it. I have had a very mild case of it and was only put on 2.5 mgs which brought everything under control for about 7 or 8 months. Then I stopped it for side effects(pain in neck and shoulder) and my tsh went too low for my endo's liking and he put me on 5 mgs a day. I am now on 2.5
Working / Worked
I have had a pretty good experience, some side effects from the meds like maybe nerve/muscle pain at the beginning but much better now that my levels are so stable.I never was as sick as some have described when they were hyper, I had a rapid heart rate and fast hard pulse at times, this was my worse symptom. Also the insomnia wasn't that great either.
Working / Worked
It worked for a while, Dr. lowered dose thyroid was still too hypo took me off then the thyroid kicked into gear again and became hyper again. I am going to see the endrogonologist Apr 11. Thinking of doing RAI a little concerned though whether I should or not. Oh, my hair is also falling out and until my thyroid/meds are level it won't stop falling out. I hope I'm not bald by then.
Working / Worked
Take a low dose of 5 mgs a day and is working well.
