Methimazole is a drug used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition that usually occurs when the thyroid gland is producing too much thyroid hormone. It is also taken before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy, to lower thyroid hormone levels and minimize the effects of thyroid manipulation. more at Wikipedia

I had the grave's disease for 10 years. Since I started methimazole it got better and better (the eye problem too, it's not that obvious now) and now I am taking 2,5 mm a day, but for a long time, that is almost for 7 years. We were expecting for the thyroid starting to work again by its own, but it didn't, so I was suggested a surgery

seemed to work very well, not alot of side effects, maybe some itching in very beginning, iam now in hypo and had to stop taking.

I was on it for 5 1/2 years before my doctor switched me to PTU. It kept me stable, but we couldn't wean me off of it.

didnt work. I had to have thyroidectomy

Dizzy and drowsy of course. We are still tweekin git to find my correct balance. I may feel good but am always aware I am on something. No one else can tell unless I mention it.
