Working / Worked
In his last school he was in a class that taught this and it seemed to work some.
There are a lot of things he can do, such as cooking, cleaning, self-care. Other things like money handling etc we are working on.
juat started working on these at school this year. Seeing some improvements in his desire to help out
Although my son is only 11 he has learned many life skills.
Most of which have taken years for him to learn but there early they learn the better. It also seems to help with self esteem being a productive member of the family. My son will clean out the dish washer, put his clothes away, cook for himself using both the microwave and stove. Pancakes, soup, eggs, popcorn, and cake are among his favorite. Learning to bake cakes was a math lesson about fractions.

Used picture cues. Listed them in order. He does pretty well, still needs a little help at times.
this kind of goes hand in hand w/ what the OT has done w/ him thru the years. i think he has learned quite a few independent living skills because of the OT.
Pretty much the same as what I said for Early intervention.
In the process as he is almost 20
Matthew goes out of his way to keep himself busy and help around the house. He'll take dirty dishes to the sink, fill your coffee cup (so you'd better want some), pick his clothes out for school the night before. He's progressed so much in this area.

HUGE!!!! It is so important for our kids to learn to become independent... we will not be here forever and I want him to take care of himself!
