It works, but it depends on how these skills are taught. My parents enrolled me in a really good transition program. I live in my own apartment, I know how to do laundry, I can use transportation independently, I can balance a checkbook; These are all things I couldn't have done if it wasn't for motivation and the program I 'm in.
