Started with this while waiting on gleevec
Took this from 6-23-09 to 7-8-09

Was on it from April 2000 - Jan 2002..
I was diagosed when i was 12 in India and was put on Hydroxurea as a palliative measure as the other treatments were not affordable then..... I did not have many side effects with hydroxurea just some hyperpigmentation....

red cells & platlets came down to norm had some dizzy spells when on 7/week.do aerobic,endurance cycling,is this helping keep levels ? down as I have been able to reduce hydrea from 7/week to 4/week with blood levels remaining norm ! nobody seems to know

None noticed

I was admited into hospital on the 19/12/2008 where I was to be kept in over the weekend. I was given 16 capsules to take during the night and was on a IV drip and was told to drink loads of water. The next day was saturday and I had my blood taken to be tested, the doctor came and told me I could go home, and dropped the amount of capsules I was to take from 16 a day to 8 a day as my white blood count had come down by half over night. I was soo happy to be allowed home.

Brought my WBC down to 6.5 in three weeks. Platelets still very high. No problems other than constipation and a 100 mg colase and Metamucil twice a day worked for that.

For the most part it's working to make the disease become stable.

only used for 3 days until Gleevec started

Started originally on 8 x 500mg tabs daily.
Managed to ween down to 2 tabs daily but have never really been able to get off them without getting sick again.
Get some pain, stomach, headaches, dizziness, lethargy. When I was on the high doses I felt really heavy and was constantly tired and would get sore skin usually on the face.
