Amplifies what sounds I can hear. Microphone from deaf ear to partial hearing ear but unable to locate sound source, engage in conversation in groups, balance problems

I've worn aids since I was 8. I'm 39 now.
Hearing aids since he was 6 months old. They have been a God~send!

I was amazed at how much hearing loss I have suffered. When the doctor fitted me with the hearing aids I got very emotional and nearly cried because I was so excited to be able to hear things others take for granted.
Helps in my left ear quite a bit.

It is very frustrating, because the hearing aids are not designed to amplify the lower frequencies of human speach, and that is where my greatest hearing deficiency is. Also, I have a significant problem with background noise drowning out the speech that I am trying to hear. I can hear the words, but I can't understand them.

I have only had two hearing aids for the last 4 or 5 years. I had one before that that was just acoustical. It worked from the time I was 7 until now. I had a massive ear infection which took most of the hearing in my right ear. I went through a work rehab program to get the hearing aids, and was surprised at the sounds I'd never heard before.
Just got a new one, Phonak, right ear. Works really well!
