Had fusion surgery (T4-L4) w/rod in 1980. Enjoyed a brace-free summer and had a body tan for the first time. Grew 2 inches on the table. Lost some of height as things settled. No real issues. In a routine pre-op chest x-ray found out rod had clean break at about mid-point. Not sure exactly why this happened, but I did have a nasty fall in my kitchen a few years before.

At 18 I had an anterior spinal fusion in the lower back--4 fused vertabrae. Initially complete correction of curvature, but settled to about a 25 degree permanent curve.

Worked wonderfully! Very little pain currently. I have the most pain when it is extremly cold. And I can feel the hooks holding the rods in place through my skin
