The surgery worked, but the rod broke in '80. I've seen many of the best doctors since then with no help other than pain meds that don't work fully.

Will i feel them sometimes. But it's really helped to live a batter life

My rod goes from T4-L4. I had my surgery in 1979 and have no problems so far. After reading this site and doing some research I think I am showing signs of "flat back" syndrome. My lower, mostly muscular I think, gives me problems when I use that part of my body. I wonder if it takes a lot of the pressure that the rest of my back does not because it is fused together.

i had a severe curvature that had to be fixed immediately. i wore a brace for 1 year before surgery and that didn't help. the surgery worked wonders, but i was still left with a 50 degree curve.

I had surgery when I was 12. It was a success until i injured myself 2 yrs ago.I did so well all my life. Never had any problems worthmentioning. I was going to be disfigureed so I considered it a great success.It's strange and scary to be in so much pain now. I read on the specialist webside that herrington rods were first generation instrumentation and that this technique did not untwist or correct the spine.Apparently now they are up to forth generation insturmentation.Hope it will go well

The harrington rods corrected my scoliosis for the most part. Up until now I haven't had any side effects or pain from the rods.

Were removed 2 years post op when I broke a screw in my fusion L4-L5.

I have pain, mostly in my shoulder blades and hip where they took the bone - but it worked.
