Hav stopped going to meetings, as we only have AA here no GA but its the same 12 step recovery process so it was helpful up to a point for the times i attended.
I have not found this too helpful in my town for a couple of reasons - there is only one meeting per week, sponsors have not been reliable, group here is very small and can't keep a treasurer. (Imagine that a compulsive gambling that can't handle the money>)
I have talked to several members and went to a support group for family members affected by gamblers.
Went to some meetings about 4 years ago. That did help me refrain from going because it makes you more accountable for your actions. It's very difficult to lie in the those meetings. It's a safety thing knowing that what is said there, stays there, so you can feel free talking about what is happening in your life without fear of being judged or criticized.
Spent 7 years going and coming..just couldn't find the group for me..and if I was attending regularly for a few months and didn't show up..no one ever called to see how I was doing.
Helped at first 14 months off from first meeting, not working anymore
i prefer A.A. the GA meetings in my area haven't really worked well for me. not enought digging deep....
No meetings anywhere close to me and getting to them was causimg more problems than fixing
I have stayed off a bet (a day at a time) for up to 8 weeks with the help of GA but I still see getting to the meetings as a bit of a chore! I'm not sure why this is but I am trying to change my way of thinking on this.
but cannot get to meetings
