Switched to the XR 5 mg to get him through the school year. Was working well until the start of this new school year - he may need a dosage change or a booster.

We tried the drug Focalin for 6 months at the age of 6. He was in the 1st grade and was sent to a disciplinary school. The medicine seemed to help him find peace while at the school. It also seemed to take the edge off of the hyper-activity. The motor tics were not helped and some seemed to get worse. He also lost his appetite and got skinny. We have not had to go back to the medicine; he has been back at his home campus every since staying about 35 days at the disciplinary school.

on a fairly large dose (20 mg) for a 52 lb child, but seems to be the only solution as of yet!
