(also known as Procrit, Erythropoietin, EPO)

Epoetin is a man-made version of human erythropoietin (EPO). EPO is produced naturally in the body, mostly by the kidneys. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. If the body does not produce enough EPO, severe anemia can occur. This often occurs in people whose kidneys are not working properly. Ep... continue

Working / Worked
Injection of 50,000 units weekly. Seems to be working well. As of 2/12/08 lowered to 40,000 and now at 30,000. Took last injection on 4-2-08
Somewhat Helpful
Has not raised red cell count only stabilized it.
Somewhat Helpful
To help prevent the anemia from occurring.
Too Soon To Tell
Tired most of the time. Not sure if it's from the condition or the cure. Just moved from taking Procrit once every two weeks to once a week.
Considering
I was told I may need to start this.
Not Working
I have been getting Procrit injections since Feb '09 and initially it seemed as though the shots were working. They have not been working since late April. My dosage was increased five weeks ago and unfortunately has not shown an increase in counts. I have actually had two transfusions while trying to give the Procrit time to work. The Procrit shots seem to make me feel extremely tired and not feel well. The nights of the shot I often feel very bad.
Not Working
My body doesnt seem to respond to it at times.
Not Working
Didn't work when I was on peritoneal dialysis; must be working now that I'm on hemo., because I haven't relapsed yet.
