Lots of food intolerances, really helps when avoid them. A good naturopath who specialises in IBD helped me way beyond what I could find out by myself. Hard to stick to 100% though.

trying to go by the glycemic index of foods more, and so far it has been helpful

NO fast food

I eat no processed foods dairy products gluten or caffeine. After discovering I had developed an allergy to gluten cutting it out was not very difficult. Cutting out the sugar and processed foods and dairy sucked. I will not lie. But changing my diet was KEY to my recovery and Id rather eat non mainstream than lie in bed exhausted and in pain for months on end. Its a no brainer for me.
