I cut out almost all caffeine and alcohol. I tried to cut out all sugar but it was too much for my willpower.
Basically I have kept a food diary and then when IBS is bad I look back at what I ate or drank and figure out a possible trigger. then when I don't need to worry if IBS strikes, I try things again. For example, I found out that beer especially dark ales brings on the IBS very well.
