Could not tolerate.

Helped get me through the first couple of months after my major manic episode. It worked well, but my doctor said it wouldn't work for me long term (too strong, his approach is to medicate as little as possible and still maintain normal mental health, which I fully support). Was part of the cocktail of the first medication I ever took.

The only thing that was bad about valproic acid was the acidy feeling in your throat afterwards. Depakote (brand name) made me gain tons of weight, but val. acid didn't.

Daughter takes 250 mil 2 times a day

Kept me stable 9 years. Had and episode a year ago, and am mainly recovered. Have become unwilling to deal with the 40-60 extra pounds that came with it and am looking for a better drug combination.

I am also on prozac as well.

Preety much did the job I think, was a while ago I was on it, stablized my moods I guess preety much.

Been on it for 2.5 years. Works well but have had problems with my body absorbing the medication.

Strong side effects at first with the depakote, then just had to cope with the frequent sleepiness. The mild irritability from time to time and the every morning waking up in astupor.
