We don't cut up our cards, but we have them in a box at home, and we don't use them except in emergencies. Not using credit cards is the key, and fortunately we haven't had any emergencies in a long while.

I cut up my credit cards and don't have any right now. I tend to be better with the dept stores and paying those off at the end of the month but need to be better disciplined...maybe I'm one of those people that just shouldn't have one.
