Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Like other third-generation cephalosporins, it has broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In most cases, it is considered to be equivalent to cefotaxime in terms of safety and efficacy. Ceftriaxone sodium is marketed by Hoffm... more at Wikipedia
Treatment Success Rate
Works somewhat in between IV coverage as needed.
Had about 14 weeks at two times I think, made me much worse for a time then a little better.
Did 21 days of 5 gram intramuscular shots. Extremely painful! Mixing it with Lidocaine lessens the pain of the shot, but the pain is still horrendous and nauseating. The medicine is very thick, so that's why it's painful going into the muscle. I also experienced pain, bruising, and knots at injection sites (alternating shots in hips/buttocks each day). Also had loose stools. Symptoms didn't improve significantly. Was not worth my pain or money, but have heard it helps many other Lyme patients.
Seams to have helped with the soar muscels but not yet the joints or headaches
I had Ceftriaxone, which I took 2 strong probiotics/day due to my big hx of C-Diff. I surprisingly did not get it on the med. I had this med via PICC line. After the 3rd week, I had to have it removed & am now dealing w/DVTs in the arm. It seemed to help somewhat. However, after wk. 2 1/2 I started to feel like I was regressing. I feel like I am at this point 89% sick, with the 11% being the Ceftriaxone having helped. I got the metallic taste 24/7, gut aches & pre-syncope AFTER the infusions.
Still taking but doc says I'm not improving enough for her. She want me to try IV antibiotics.
I had lyme 2 yrs before being treated. This drug helped my respiratory issues a lot. Also helped the joint pain and fatigue only while I was taking it(symptoms are back).
IV, did well on this.
Both times that I was on the Rocephin, I responded beautifully. The 1st was removed after 6 mos. I felt so great! The 2nd had to be removed prematurely, unfortunately.
Too Soon To Tell
I was on IV for two weeks and could no longer handle it. I asked to be put back on oral, and I am wondering if this is the right decision?
