Carbimazole is used to treat hyperthyroidism. It prevents the peroxidase enzyme from coupling and iodinating the tyrosine residues on thyroglobulin, hence reducing the T3/T4.

Despite being on Carbimazole for 5 years my Thyroid Function tests were still coming back abnormally high so I have since proceeded to radioiodine treatment. I had the RAI about 5 weeks now but no real reduction of my thyroid function or the size of my thyroid gland.

Its been pretty hit and miss; am now sort of stabilised but eyes are still bad; depression seems to be a side effect.
