It works but unforseen emergencies really can wipe you out.

With the limited monthly income of just over $1200, the only way I CAN survive these days, is by sticking to a budget, and by keeping track of my spending. I've found that accounting for every penny spent, is a great method of not only budgeting, but has also, at times, allowed me to forgo making purchases that werent really needed, in order to stick some into savings.

Everything is budgeted...husband and I have a allowance and we stick to that for personal things...even clothes...sure helps.
