I am at 120 days post stem cell transplant with no trace of leukemia in my blood or marrow at this time. I feel very lucky, as my odds of getting it into remission were slim. I am 42 and had almost no side effects from the transplant. It was not fun, but I would do it again in a heartbeat if my leukemia comes back. Basically, it is a week in the hospital of heavy chemo, getting your stem cells, followed by 3 weeks in the hosp. recovering. Actual transplant is like a blood tranfusion.
It worked and gave us 2 more years together we wouldn't have had otherwise

What can I say, it was hell with all the side affects x 10. Would I do it again? Most definetly yes. It gave me the cure that I wanted
Horrible experience with chemo, long hospital stay, still have GVHD even 10 years out!
Cancer free for 6 yrs!! Love life but don't know if I could go through that again! Have met my donor, my angel! Double yuck!

Dad had the transplant at the Christie Hospital near Manchester on the 29th May and has been home from hospital a week and is feeling great,he still has some hair left!
