I used sulfasalazine for many years with my former doctor and it appeared to work quite well but it appears it lost its potency as far as my issues are concerned. Additionally my new doctor would prefer I use Asacol so its effects are still to be determined. I experienced little or no side effects while I used sulfsalazine and it certainly was much more inexpensive.

I'm on a different version because am allergic to Sulfa.

I've been on it since 1988 and it works well. If I go off it my UC goes from mild to moderate. I'm lucky because I experience no side effects. ( 4 x 500mg twice daily)

This drug was succesful in obtaining remission but was not able to keep the disease at bay. I did use it for many years though because it worked best for me.
