Started taking antabuse to get off the hooch, relapsed several times over years. Now take it with the wife.

Good deterrent for me. Definitely not a "magic pill", but being on this medication makes me really reconsider giving in to a craving

..has changed my option of medicating my problems..i dont drink anymore ..period..and since i dont drink..i have not relapsed to crack either..

Only day 5 ,but the idea of possible death if i drink is the best message my brain has got every day.
no more finding excuses without any consequences.
looking forward to the next 12 months on it

antabuse is a miracle drug.

Court ordered in April '09 after receiving a DUI last year. I guess it works because I haven't drank since Jan. 27th '09. I think the side effects are headache and "metal" taste in mouth. But headaches are also common with peri menupause and fibromyalgia.

I'm currently self-medicating on Antabuse, and it's the most effective treatment I've found so far. I've been taking the 250mb pill every morning, but at night I still try to drink -- I break out in hives,start sneezing, get headaches, and my heart rate goes to 140 -- but at least, after a few minutes of this, I realize the futility and just go to bed before getting fully loaded.
