About Me
I'm a newly married (tho we've been together 9 yrs) 28 y/o with no kids. I've had chronic muscle, nerve, & joint pain, & sleep issues since I was about 14. In Sept 2007 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and on April 1, 2008 I had a minimally invasive discectomy on my L2-3 disc (was injured in a car accident in 8/2006). Up until March I worked for a well known media company based here in the Carolinas creating & editing advertising scripts for clients. Currently unemployed & recovering from surgery. I grew up in PA, lived in NC for 5 yrs, in CO for 2 yrs, & am now back in NC for good... hopefully.

Interests
My passions include, but are not limited to, singing, writing, music (both playing and listening), abstract and surrealist art (I ADORE Salvador Dali.) painting, sculpting, photography (see my photos below), psychology, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, (I love social sciences), botany/gardening, interior design, architecture, unique jewelry, sushi, Izze natural sparkling beverages, Boulder's Pearl St. Mall, going to concerts, being a kid at heart, toys, and I adore animals (especially cats - I have 2: Flash & Siren). I'm not a big movie person, mainly b/c I feel that most of the movies that come out are rehashed predictable bs. I do, however, enjoy creative & original (whether in story or in delivery) movies. Some of my favourites are: - Amelie - Chasing Amy - Pirates of the Caribbean (1) - House of Flying daggers - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Big Fish - Nightmare Before Xmas - Dogma - Office Space - Emperor's New Groove

Close Fibromyalgia
I was just diagnosed (9/18/07) w/Fibromyalgia, although I've suspected it for a month or so since I've had symptoms of it since I was 14. I had 15/18 tender points. My symptoms include chronic migrating pain in the muscles, nerves, joints, (what feels like bones)... limbs/body aching & weakness, TMJ, sleep apnea, memory problems, concentration issues, ibs, muscle twitching, headaches of all kinds, sinus issues, lethargy/fatigue, bronchial (breathing) spasms... Prob. forgetting some.
Treatments
- Ultram Working / Worked
- taking the generic version Tramadol. Started taking it Oct 1st and for the first month or so it was great. No side effects that I can recall, and the pain was more or less gone (limb pain, etc, not headaches, tmj, etc type pain). Am currently on 1 50mg pill every 6 hrs and I'm supposed to work up to 2 pills every 6 hrs. Haven't gotten to that point yet but will try to soon as the 1 pill is no longer having an effect. (as of Dec 7th).

Aug 16 2006 I was involved in a 3 car accident (we were the middle car). I was in the front passenger seat. The impact broke my seat -- I wound up going to the ER but it was 2 months before I actually had an MRI done b/c the Dr's thought it was just strained muscles. Turns out I have 3 ruptured discs and a bulging disc in my lower back, at the L2-L3, L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1. I'm still undergoing treatment for the injury. (UPDATE: Had surgery on L2-3 on April 1st 2008).
Treatments
- Bedrest Somewhat Helpful
- Recently (12/5/07) further damaged that area (unsure where/what just yet) and only option was to go on bedrest, as I can't walk, sit, stand, etc. So far it's helping so long as I don't try to move too much, stand, etc and so long as I take the other medication w/it.
- Cortisone (Injection) Not Working
- Had one done 3 months after the accident and didn't get any relief from it.
- Epidural Injection Not Working
- It was an Epidural Lumbar Steroidal (cortisone) injection. Didn't help.
- Flexeril Not Working
- Didn't have any effect on me, but I'm very tolerant to medication.
- Hydrocodone Not Working
- Didn't have any effect on me, but I'm very tolerant to medication.
- Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
- Right after the accident happened, it didn't really help me but I'm taking it right now (12/7/07) for the 2nd injury and it seems to be reducing the swellign a bit -- or maybe that's just due to the bed rest?
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- It helped me feel better in the immediate short-term. However, I've stopped going as it wasn't helping long term.
