I lost it one day in January and almost quit my job. I got to work about 45 minutes late, the kids called fighting and missed school AGAIN!!!! Then Family Services Department called cause the school reported me for educational neglect and physical neglect because my daughter kept missing her bus and not going and insists on wearing the same clothes every day (clean of course). I was mentally and emotionally exhausted . I got into an arguement with my day shift cashier, etc. It was a morning from Hell. So about 1/2 hour into my shift I flipped out, started crying and called my boss to quit. She refused to accept my notice, filled my shift and sent me home for the day and told me we'd talk the next day when I was calmer and more rational. I went home, called family services back, cleaned house and met with the worker from FS. She was very nice and supportive and says she thinks I'm doing great and doing all I can under the circumstances at this time to get my family back on track. I told her about quitting my job and she said if I needed help getting food stamps or anything to let her know and she'd see what she could do. She also told me to take a few days and really think about it before I did anything.
So I met with my boss the next day and simply told her I could not come in to work before 8AM because my kids had to become my priority and I could not come in until I had made sure they all went to school. Mind you, there's 3 schools involved, 3 different start times, etc. I told her I'd step down from my current job if needed and worst case they could let me go if they could not accomadate my special circumstances. She said she understood. She was supposed to get back with me to see what they wanted to do. I assume they approved my schedule change since I am still managing the store but on my own terms, I have not gotten a pay-cut, and have not been moved to another position in the company. So I am still working. The kids are all going to school, most days without too much hastle other than my driving them if they're running late or miss the bus. I am occasionally late though. Family services follows up on them at school weekly and that seems to help them stay focused on going and I have only been contacted by the worker once since then to verify their absences.
Did I mention my computer crashed the day after all this happened? So I got my husband's old laptop working but it died a few days later. So a lot has been happening here in the last month but we are all doing well and God continues to bless us each day. Of course some days are better than others but that's life. I hope you are all well and I'll be in touch!!! Love, Jen
