I too had fusion with this 3rd surgery 2 years ago this month. It did get rid of leg pain hooray but, back pain no. My surgeon was truthful saying there are so many muscles in back you can't get rid of the pain over 90% of time and if you go in surgery for that reason you are going to be dissappointed. I go to pain dr. every month for meds to help control and I have had so many series of injections I lost count and matter of fact started another series today. They help for while but, no cure. I worked part time before surgery but, cannot work now I just can't sit or stand for long and taking pain meds who would want me. I hear same thing about SS takes long time to get and sad thing they don't care what happens in mean time to ya. Take care sorry I can't give wonderful news but, that would only being lying to ya and everybody is different what helps or didn't help me might do wonders for you or someone else and I have talked to few that back surgery they felt cured them so go figure. Close Back Pain
Injured in fall at work July '06. L4-L5 disc extrusions causing constant, burning pain, especially when I sit. Have had injections, therapy and other. Had fusion surgery Aug '07. Still having much pain. Unable to sit or stand for any real length of time. Unable to work. Fighting with Workers Comp is all I do now.
Treatments
- Epidural Injection Not Working
- Felt OK for about one day. Never really relieved completely.
- Bedrest Working / Worked
- Helps.
- Carisoprodol Working / Worked
- SOMA works great in conjunction with my Lortab. Seems to enhance the pain relief.
- Cortisone (Injection) Not Working
- No help
- Epidural Injection Not Working
- Felt OK for about one day. Never really relieved completely.
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- LorTab 10 is the only medication that actually has any effect. It helps with the pain. I tried Oxycodone but I do not like feeling "high", so I gave it back.
- Morphine Working / Worked
- Morphine did not do much for me.
- Relaxation Working / Worked
- Resting in bed is really the only way to get some minor relief.
- TENS Working / Worked
- TENS unit is absolutely worthless. I was given one by WC so I try to use it but it is really a waste of time.
