Thursday, September 4, 2008 | A General Update story

So I've struggled a bit with ovarian cysts since I was 12 when my doc put me on BC to try to control them.  I stayed on BC until I was 21 and married and after just a few mos of TTC I was blessed and pregnant with my daughter who is now close to 14.  I also had a miscarriage about 5mos after she was born. I wasn't ttc but felt blessed nonetheless.  Unfortunately that ended in an early miscarriage around 6weeks.  I never went back on the pill due to side affects and non fertility related medical issues but my huband and I had a very rocky marriage after my daughter was born so we really never actively tried again.  We divorced years later but all throughout the years my period was very regular at 28 days.  About 4yrs ago it started to vary a bit but was still regular between 25 and 28 days.  All of the sudden about 6 mos ago I had a month where I spotted/had light bleeding for 5 days mid-cycle, then AF returned a little later then normal.  Then I married again in mid-June this year.  My now-husband and I had been actively ttc for the last 2yrs but decided not to pursue an RE until we were officially married (looking back I think it was a stupid decision but you know what they say about hindsight!).  So, we get married in mid-June and AF is due 7/5 (28 days) - nothing, it doesn't show up until 7/15 (38 days).  Of course I tormented myself and my husband the entire 10 days taking HPTs like I was chewing bubble gum - each time being crushed when I saw a BFN.  I had myself convinced that it was a honeymoon baby, sigh.  In any case, after that AF started on 8/12 (day 28), however, it was consistenly light (no heavy times, clots etc) for the entire 5 days.  I didn't have the usual pre-AF signs (headaches, sore breasts, cramping) but my breasts got sore right afterwards.  I had my annual GYN appt on 8/20 so my doc made me take a urine test to be safe and of course it was BFN as I suspected.  Then all of the sudden I started spotting again on 8/26 and by 8/27 was bleeding quite a bit but it was a VERY dark brown and then for the next 3 days it was just like my regular AF, heavy w/clots for 2 days and then tapered off.  As luck would have it my husband and I had our first RE consult on 8/28 (2 days after my spotting/bleeding started) and scheduled our SA (which I dropped off this morning and am already SO nervous about!) and got an rx to start the Clomid Challenge when AF begins (who knows when the REAL AF will start now, sigh......

Anyway I'm so very sorry this is so long winded and maybe TMI but I'd love to hear any similar situations you've encountered and for you to share any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks so very much!

Have you received the results of the SA yet? That should give you some insight.
Seems like your cycle has gotten quite complicated. The women's cycle is such a mystery, there are so so many things that can effect it and cause changes. And a lot of times we just won't know what, not even the doctors.

About a year ago I started having crazy things going on with my cycle, like I started spotting brwn prior to my periods sometimes for two weeks I would spot before my period would acctually start. Doctors had no clue. After several months the spotting decreased and my cycles went back to 30 days instead of 32-38 days like they had been. It's like it straitened itself out. The only thing I have changed is eating healthier and decreasing my stress.

I believe the wacky periods were do to stress in my case.

Let us know how things go. Saying a prayer for you.

I can't offer up a similar situation as my period has remained regular pretty much my whole life. My DH and I are both older (I'm 39 and he is 55), we have been together for over 10 yrs but didn't marry until a little over 4 yrs ago. We just thought things would happen naturally and IF didn't really cross our minds until more recent years. We did all of the testing in July, meds began in late Aug/early Sept and had ER today. Have you had all of the wonderful testing done (blood work to check FSH levels, HSG, etc.)? Has that come back clear? Mine was clear and they figured that part of our IF was due to age (mainly mine since I am an old geezer when it comes to trying to be a mother at the ripe old age of 39) and morphology. I must mention that I love your photos. What a great looking family. You all look so happy! Oh, are you going to be doing IVF?

    Best of luck!!!
