I came across this on the net. I'm not sure who the author is, but this is what my avatar says:

It is truth that only 2 defined identities have stepped forward and said I will die for you:

Jesus Christ and the American soldier.
I died for your soul
I died for your freedom.

Dear Lord Jesus; King of Kings, Captain of our souls.
You endured the pain of battle with the evil foe in order to secure my
salvation and redemption.
Lord, grant me a grateful heart for the freedoms I enjoy.

Lord, lead me to treasure my spiritual freedom and open my eyes and lips
to praise this liberty through you.

I am grateful and thankful for this blessed land, which was won and
preserved for me by the sacrifices of my brothers who have come before me
and with me.
I know that freedom is not free and is not paid as a lump sum. It must be
purchased and protected in installments.
Help me to honor the memory of those who paid these installments, and
be a ready warrior to defend these freedoms for people everywhere.

Grant understanding and provide comfort to any who have sorrow for the
death of our heroes who have gave their life for our country. What greater love is this?
Lord, you have demonstrated this love for all.
Grant comfort to any who still carry the physical or mental scars of war,
so they may enjoy a wholesomeness of peace and freedom. They paid the installment.
They are heroes, our bravehearts.

Lord, keep me from forgetting the heroes of the past, so that I will never
become a coward in the face of the future.

Lord, grant the gift of peace to our land, and this world.
Lord, with this gift we can then focus on the banner of the lordship of your cross.

Amen.
