Update No 72!!! Mood
Monday, August 10, 2009

Had chemo 3 today....now half way through treatment!!  I am still tired but no other side effects, I am SUCH a lucky chick, I really am.  I had a bit of a scare this weekend as I noticed my abdomen was getting very large again...and of course, I got frightened thinking the Ascites (OVCA Fluid) had built up again.  Today I was told it hadnt, they wouldn't expect anyone with a normal CA125 to have Ascites. They had a feel about and said the swelling was due to the steriods.....as well as the swelling on my hands, which has now meant me taking of my rings.  It took a lot to get them of today...but we managed with a lot of patience and persuasion!!

My CT Scan on 22nd July was clear, no sign of timour, no sign of blood clot in my groin  but I still have to continue my injections until I am finished Chemo...end of October. My CA125 Tumour marker is now down to 15.  all great and positive news.

There were 2 people today who suffered reactions to the chemo (Same chemo as me!).  Its basically like anaphylactic (sp?) shock....cant breath, tight chest etc..they are SO quick at treating it with steriods and anti histamines but boy it is scary to watch....even scarier for the people Im sure!!

In between getting my bloods taken and starting treatment, I have about 2 hours to waste, so today I took myself down to the Macmillan Cancer Support Service  (Right beside ths hospital) to see all what goes on.  So...I have booked myself in for reflexology  (Which I know I will enjoy) and a bit of counselling, nothing heavy just informal chats so I can talk through things with people when I need to.

So there ya go chicks, all good...and Im going to bed now!

Hugs

xx

great news, and you sound like you've taken charge of the battle. I think you are wise to arrange to have someone to chat with while going through chemo. I puffed up like a hot air balloon due to steroids during chemo. . I've never seen anyone have reactions during infusions but that would be scary to watch! Glad you are tolerating it well. love and purrs,

It's great to know you are doing so well.. huge well done to you. I am sure attitude has lots to do with this. I had three, moderate, allergic reactions to carboplatin.. not nice at all, but provided some excitement in the chemo room.

Steroids do have some yucky side effects.. including bloating. I don't respond well to them at all.. they make me a bit mad.. so I only have them through i.v. with the chemo.. I don't take them at home.. I would probably have more energy if I did take them.. but we have to weigh these things up.. hugs to you xxx

This is so lovely and positive!! Dan always gets all puffed up when he takes steroids for his asthma. I'm so glad you're doing so well. I had an anaphylactic reaction to a general anaesthetic, and although it's scary it goes away pdq with the right treatment. Best place to be when you have one is in hospital :) Your journal has really cheered me up.
