Good News / Bad news! Mood
Monday, June 29, 2009 | A Breaking News story

Ok....so today I went for my pre chemo appointment and I had 2 shocks......

The first was that I have put on 7lbs since I left hospital!!!! Bloody hell.....really stop buying those big tubs of Ben and Gerry's Ice cream....lol

The 2nd shock...was that I am stage 1a, not 1c, as I was told by my surgeon 10 days ago! Allegedly, the cancer was in my left ovary only but....that there wasnt a stomach wash done (this should be done to check the fluid in the abdomen for cancer cells too).  I am angry at that.....as the difference between an a and a c are a lot...especially to me personally.  I will be asking more questions about this.

I start my chemo tomorrow and also get my wig tomorrow.....mmmm.  I will let you know what happens after chemo.  Im a bit scared but still feeling strong and optimistic.....I will be fine, just fine!!!

Hugs

xx

A stage of IA sounds great especially to some of us (although I realize the best alternative is to not have cancer at all). I thought they didn't necessarily do chemo if everything is contained. Isn't that what IA means? I was III C needed to have the full spectrum of treatment requirements. Don't worry about chemo - this is what we do to get well. Hugs, Janet

Janet....my cancer is known as "clear cell", which is the most aggressive...hence the chemo and trust me, I dont mind!! As you say, chemo is what we need to stay well. I believe they do chemo in NI in most instances, I have spoken to a few girls with 1A who also had chemo. Hugs....xx

Don't worry about the weight gain. You have been through alot and not very active. Once you are feeling better going for some walks will help. I am happy for you for being a 1a. I am also and very grateful for that. Will be here for you! Big hugs....Beth

Wonderful news that it was stage 1A. I am also of Janet's understanding--didn't think chemo was necessary at stage !A or 1B--whatever, the chemo will surely kill any lingering ovca cells. On the weight issue--I gained 25 pounds after surgery, and not because of food intake. I still am unable to lose it. Doctor's won't even address it--shrug it off to hormonal changes resulting from surgery. Any who, a few pounds isn't the end of the world. Best to you starting chemo--yes, you will be fine. love and purrs,
