    • About Me

I am married with 2 grown daughters and 2 grandchildren. I feel much better now than when I first was diagnosed with RA in 2006, but am still working on finding the right combo and level of meds.

    • Interests

I love to read, play with my grandchildren, gardening, and used to do all kinds of needlework. I love to laugh and enjoy comedy movies - I am a big movie buff. I have two dogs Roxy is an Izberian Hound and American Staffordshire Terrier mix and Thora is a black Labrador and pit bull mix. I am hoping that having Roxy and Thora will encourage me to take walks and play with them and get this body moving! I love cooking (and eating) and enjoy all kinds of music. I like camping and fishing, and sightseeing. I am always interested in making new friends.

Jilly - thanks for the post to my journal - I know what you mean about a husband being useless - Matt pretty much left everything to me unless he could sit on his butt and do it - and he didn't have a job!

    • Close Rheumatoid Arthritis

I've had Fibromyalga for about 18 years, back surgery to correct degenerative disk disease, another form of arthritis 19 years ago. Have OA, & was diagnosed with RA in the fall of 2006 and now Gout. Am still in process of finding right level of medications. I also have IBS - its a pain in the - well you know ! Also have Asthma; chemical, environmental, & food allergies; dealing with side effects of surgical menopause. My hair is trying to move from my head to my upper lip! I will not submit!

      Treatments

      B-Complex Vitamins Working / Worked
      Fish Oil Working / Worked
This is supposed to help reduce inflamation. It's also good for the skin and hair - figure it can't hurt.
      Folic Acid Working / Worked
Haven't had any sores in my mouth since I started on 2mg
      Glucosamine/Chondroitin Working / Worked
I have added it because I have been told that the cartilage has worn away extensively in both knees. I am hoping it helps me before it gets any worse...
      Humira Working / Worked
I used to take a 40mg shot once every two weeks, now I take it once every week. It has really made a difference! I am finally able to cut down on the prednisone
      Methotrexate Working / Worked
I am up to 9 pills - 22.5mg, and have been holding steady since -well I flared again and again and I am at the maximum dosage so we are adding Humira. I have been having trouble with increased levels of liver enzymes. It may just be due to my fatty liver, the fact that I am overweight and my high cholesterol. But to be on the safe side my rheumy has lowered the MTX to 6 pills a week. I noticed a difference right away in my pain level.
      Milk Thistle Working / Worked
This is an herb that supports liver function. I have fatty infiltration of the liver, & Methotrexate is also hard on the liver so I added this as a preventitive measure.
      Prednisone Working / Worked
Definitely helping, but I have put on 60lbs in 2 years - not happy! Can't wait to be weaned off so I can get back to normal. Have to take fossamax, calcium & D to counteract. I was on 15 mg - am finally down to 8mg. I am decreasing one mg each month.
      Relafen Working / Worked
I think, Its hard to tell because I am on so many meds & supplements I am not sure which ones are actually helping...
    • Close Fibromyalgia

I've had FM for a long time. Water exercise, laughter, and sleep help me feel better. Usually have trouble sleeping, hard to get to a pool, so I watch comedies and laugh a lot! I also have RA and when one of them acts up it kicks the other into high gear. The combination gives a whole new meaning to hell on earth - ouch!

      Treatments

      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
I took aqua aerobics class a couple semesters in school and I felt much better. Don't have access to them now
      Elavil Working / Worked
I take this at night 50 mg and it is finally starting to help me sleep. My FM symptoms seem to be under control but FM & RA seem to boost the bad effects of each other
      Lyrica Too Soon to Tell
Just started this on June 20, 2008. My dr starts out slow with 50mg at night for a few days, then it will be 50 2 times a day, then 75 mg 2 times a day and will continue until find the right level for me. Starting it like this has prevented poor side affects.

    • Open Hiatal Hernia

I was having a lot of pain and indigestion. I had an upper endoscopy and they found the hernia. Truthfully, the pain got much worse after the test. Prilosec keeps it mostly under control. Occasionally I will get an attack of pain and if I can sip some hot water, that seems to relax it and allows me to burp.

      Treatments

      Prilosec Working / Worked
    • Open Sjogren's Syndrome

I first noticed chronic dry mouth, buring tongue and horrible metallic taste in summer of 2003. Now I must carry water with me everywhere I go. My mouth gets so dry I can't talk or swallow without wetting my mouth first.

      Treatments

      Salagen Working / Worked
I take 5mg 3 times a day - started a little over a month ago. I definitely notice a difference but I still have dryness. My eyes also aren't as dry anymore - yeah!
    • Open Fatty Liver Disease

JillyT hasn’t entered any details for this support group.

      Type: Adult Asthma

The first time I noticed wheezing and having difficulty breathing was when I was on a camping trip, pregnant with my first child at the age of 18

      Treatments

      Albuterol Working / Worked
      Flovent Working / Worked
I have been switched from the Advair and this is working so much better - I've noticed a real difference
      Singulair Working / Worked
The doc added this to my regimine this winter (08) while I was having so much respiratory illness. I think it has made a big difference.
    • Open Chronic Pain

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
      Lyrica Too Soon to Tell
      just started taking it
      Physical Therapy Not Working
      TENS Not Working

My doc just called and said she thinks I have gout, all in addition to RA, OA, SS and Fibro - can I say enough already!

      Treatments

      Glucosamine/Chondroitin Considering
I have added it because I have been told that the cartilage has worn away extensively in both knees. I am hoping it helps me before it gets any worse...
      MSM Working / Worked
      Relafen Working / Worked
