My mother's stroke Mood
Thursday, October 29, 2009

Hello all my dear DS friends. I'm sitting in a hospital room in Asheville, NC w/ my mother. She has had a stroke followed by a bleed (i.e. second stroke). It has been a nightmare. She started out in the hospital in her hometown and did not receive the proper care - which may be at least partly to blame for the second stroke. My brother and sister are not carrying their fair share of the load (which is usual) in caring for her and I'm beginning to wear out. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. My husband just got here last night (so now I have my laptop). I don't know how long I'll be here or when she will be moved to rehab, but this is going to be a long hard road for her and all of us. Please keep my mother and all of us in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll try to keep you all updated on the situation when she is sleeping.  I love and miss you all!

Will be praying for you both. Try not to get too worn down yourself. I'm sure it is a great comfort to your Mom for you to be there with her. Use this as a time to just "visit" with your Mom...love, hugs and prayers...Lynn

I will be praying for all of your family. I know about mother's in the hospital. Mine went in 8 years ago with signs of a heart attacked & had open heart surgery & she never came home. I don't mean that anything like will happen to your mom but Ivery much keep her in my prayers...hugs, Connie

My heart goes out to you. On the one year anniversary of my son's passing, my husband had a stroke. We went immediately to our hospital who did not do the right thing. We were transferred to UPMC in Pittsburgh the next day and thank God, they did save his life. We spent a month in the hospital and 6 weeks in rehab. Being there for all they need can be tiring, but at the same time, be a little selfish, take naps, get comfy, and let the hospital staff take care of both of you. You are really doing the staff a big favor if you are there all the time being the personal care aid so what they do for you is minimal in comparision. I pray your mother will get great care and recover to the fullest extent.

Oh, my prayers are with you and your precious Mom. I will pray that your siblings also will wake up and help you. How can they NOT remember that she cared for them when they were as helpless as they could be. It is so crazy that people forget that they are completley dependant on their Mothers when they are babies(and their Dads.) I hope the realize what they are missing before they are too late. Love,Peggy
