Caring married lady with two grown up children and a granddaughter born July 08. Suffered on and off with depression for 20 years. 2007 was the worst so far but hoping things can only get better. Suffered chronic pain for almost 10 years. Eventually diagnosed with Generalised Osteoarthritis a couple of years ago. Obese. Work part time as a medical secretary at a doctor's practice and also (in my 'spare time'...lol) as a carer for adults with learning disabilities (they come to stay with us while their families have a break)

Just to help calm your worries! I so hope all goes well with this new date and you are feeling better than before. I don't know if you need a medication change or just some things to go better in your life? I so hope the best for you and your family!

    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

Suffered from depression on and off for 20 years. Variety of medications over the years...too many to mention and counselling. Been at my worst this year and have received cognitive-behavioural therapy one-to-one.

      Treatments

      Celexa Working / Worked
Changed from citalopram to cipralex (supposed to be a stronger more up to date version) few months ago - deteriorated recently so got doc to increase it today from 10mg to 20 mg
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
Quite hard. Have to make yourself carry out the exercises. Probably not possible to do it at the depths of depression.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
      See Celexa
      Paxil Working / Worked
      Cant remember
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
Need a lot of support to keep it up
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Cant remember
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
Various counsellors - main drawback is sometimes (especially if its via work) there is only funding for short term. I'm desperate for some more at the moment!
    • Close High Cholesterol

I was found to have high cholesterol (9 ish on the UK scale) when I was 32...It is still raised but high doses of statins have brought it down to 6.something...

      Treatments

      Lipitor Working / Worked
40 mg didnt work - Doc increased it to 80 and I woke up next morning in terrible pain - been on 60 mg ever since - took about a year before it came down though
      Tricor Somewhat Helpful
      Cant remember (sorry)
      Zocor Somewhat Helpful
Changed to Lipitor when it wasnt working well enough
    • Open Stress Management

Get very easily stressed (and have done for years unfortunately). Psychologist has identified this year that excessive stress causes my episodes of depression.

    • Open Arthritis

Originally diagnosed with 'chronic pain' with no cause. After approx 8 years saw Rheumatologist who said I have Generalised (Osteo) Arthritis (definined as OA in at least four 'joint groups'. Cope by taking lots of meds and pacing myself

      Treatments

      Glucosamine/Chondroitin Too Soon to Tell
Keep forgetting to take the tablets!!
Pain Management Clinic Working / Worked
Found this very helpful - luckily in England it is free too!
      Voltaren Working / Worked
Use this with paracetamol and pregablin - know its bad for me but cant carry on with my life without it! Also take Omeprazole in the hope it gives my stomach some protection.
    • Open Chronic Pain

      Treatments

      Heat Working / Worked
Cant do without when I'm at work - or other 'bad' times
      Lyrica Working / Worked
Expect side-effects and drop back dosage when they're too much!!
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
Physiotherapist taught stretching exercises as part of pain management course - they really help
    • Open Anxiety

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Working / Worked
definitely help - just got to try and do them before you're 'out of control'
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
Found I need regular prompting by nurse or counsellor
      Lexapro Somewhat Helpful
Anti-depressant I'm on - My GP said this should help treat anxiety aswell?
    • Open Obesity

      Treatments

      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
Does work - just the willpower/sticking power is a problem for me..started again on Monday ..volunteered to be a helper - perhaps that'll help - also dont like going to meetings alone as it makes be feel lonely and alone.
    • Open Diets & Weight Maintenance

      Treatments

      Eating Healthier Foods Somewhat Helpful
Find it too difficult to manage without sweet foods - have to calorie or point count to incorporate that
      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
As long as I stick to it I lose weight but I find it hard to put in the amount of effort that's required to keep it interesting
    • Open Diabetes Type 2

My Mum has Type 2 diabetes and has been insulin dependent for the last couple of years - I am at very high risk of developing it because of a strong family history and I am overweight

    • Open Hearing Loss & Deafness
      Type: Sensorineural (Moderate)

I have a congenital hearing loss which was only discovered when I was in 'junior' school (approx 9 years old) - My teacher told my Mum I daydreamed and my Mum said "Oh no I dont" and from there it was discovered...

      Treatments

      Hearing Aids Working / Worked
NHS original aids were impossible - I bought a digital aid for almost £1K but it failed after a couple of years - now have two digital aids on NHS and they're great!
    • Open Parenting Teenagers (12-18)

My children are in their 20s now but I had a nightmare with my daughter as she was having sex with her boyf from 13/14....

      Treatments

      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
We went to family counselling for some time and it did help
    • Open Caregivers

I am joint carer of my Mum since my Dad went in hospital prior to passing away Apr 05

    • Open Menopause

Had a problem with heavy periods last 15 years - this year they've 'dried up' - not had any for 3/4 months now - Seeing gynaecologist for abnormal cells on cervix - he said no one can tell when a woman is in the menopause ....just presuming I am!!!??? My arthritis has been much worse since periods stopped - dont know if there is a link....

    • Open Fitness Goals
      Type: Improve overall fitness

Been overweight for nearly 20 years...Down 20 lbs from my max weight but still got a long way to go...have high blood cholesterol, arthritis, depression etc

      Treatments

      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
Does work but at the moment I'm working on cutting out high fat/sugar foods, eating 3 meals and not in-between....
      Walking Too Soon to Tell
Because I have arthritis and chronic pain I feel walking is my best bet
