    • About Me

I am a member of the catholic faith, which has helped keep me going so far. I have 3 children, one at home. My world basically fell apart 2 weeks before Christmas of 2002. Things seemed to have gone downhill from there. I pray daily for a cure for my husband, who was diagnosed with ALS 3-31-05. Alas, a cure for Rob is not to be. He left this life for a much better one on 10-18-09.

      • Hug

        From 2stressed Tuesday

I know how hard the first month can be but you have made it. That is a big milestone in your life. Yes, your life will be different now but you have so many good memories of your life with Rob and as you said, he isn't suffering anymore. I miss my Mother a lot but I wouldn't want her to come back and suffer like she did before her death. Someday we all will be together and it will certainly be better than this world. I wish you good luck in your job search, God will provide for you. Take care of yourself. Love, Martha

      • Close Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

My husband was diagnosed March of 2005. He has had to retire and I have also left my job to take care of him. He has gotten to a stage where I have to do 99% of his care. We have opted to leave things the way they are and make due. The cost of remodeling is just more than we can handle.

        Treatments

        Baclofen Working / Worked
Releived stiffness in legs but, also seemed to cause an overall weakness that wasn't there before. Has also caused sporadic rashes on legs and chest, traveling itches and increase oil secretion of the face (especially the forehead), neck and ears. Dr. says that the baclofen shouldn't be causing these things but, they weren't there before he started taking the med.
        Rilutek Working / Worked
        Muscle twitching has slowed down.
      • Close Families of Prisoners

Just before Christmas of 2002, I found out that my oldest son was sexually molesting my daughter. It ended up that he was victimizing her as well as a neighbor boy and my other son. He is currently serving 14 to 30 years. My husband and I visit when we can but, his health isn't good (ALS) and we still have custody of our other son. We lost parental rights on our daughter Jan. 2005.

        Treatments

        Psychotherapy Working / Worked
It helps getting an outsiders opinion on things.
        Talking Working / Worked
Works sometimes, other times, just made things worse.
      • Open Caregivers

I am caring for my husband of 28 years who has ALS. This past year has seen his mobility go down greatly. In January of 2007, he could feed and dress himself. Now, he is still able to walk around the house to get from here to there but, I feed, dress and bathe him. I has been stressful learning to live on a smaller income and doing without a lot of things. I do my best to see that he has all that he needs though and find some "me" time as well.

      • Open Menopause

Have been having perimenopausaul symptoms for about the past 5-8 years. Mostly night sweats and some irregularity in my cycles.

        Treatments

        Estroven Working / Worked
worked for a while then the night sweats became worse again.
      • Open Sexual Abuse

I am not a sexual abuse victim persay but, by relation as my 3 children are all victims. My oldest son was abused by a so called school friend who lived down the road from us. Our son in turn started abusing our other son and eventually our daughter. We lost our parental rights on our daughter Jan. 2005. Our oldest son is in prison serving 14-30 years and our middle child, our other son, is home with us after being in residential therapy for 21 months.

        Treatments

        Talking Working / Worked
Went for counseling,1st alone then with my husband, for a little over 3 years. Left because we just seemed to be repeating ourselves and had kind of ran into a dead end.
      • Open Widows & Widowers

10-18-09, my husband lost his battle with ALS. He just had his 53rd birthday.

      • Open Bereavement
        Type: Loss of a Partner/Spouse

        Grief Counseling Working / Worked
