so wish i had seen one (an endocrinologist) in edmonton about the pcos rather than the reg ob/gyn tho he is a riot. they are so much better trained in matters of these elusive imbalances in pcos. was just the initial consult and if i hadnt already read up on it she would have answered all the questions i asked my gyn n he didnt know or just chose to treat the infertility (its his job after all).
She is looking into the possibility i may have cushings syndrome thogh i highly doubt it cus pcos and cushings have similar symptoms. i dont have the classic egg body shape and thin arms n legs... humpty dumpty sat on a wall... but my cortisol levels tend to fluctuate alot.. .but who knows .
once i wean hayls it looks like i will be going on a heart med that also blocks testosterone to help me lose that icky hair i keep having to pluck what like seems for like hours a day (if i bother) that five oclock shadow is i bit much sometimes. i know that may be too much info but you know what it's reality with this syndrome, im not ashamed of it and i honestly dont think anyone else should be either. this is another thing in my life id like to help rid the world of its stigma about. the stigma about the weight gain mostly. in all honestly quite a few obese women have pcos. not all of us are 'just lazy'
its just so sad that its so common and yet very few people other than the ones who have it and doctors, know it exists and even at that most arnt trained to read the lab results properly. love my old family doc but I would have been diagnosed a hell of alot sooner like when i was twenty when he first started testing me over n over for it. all levels within 'normal' but the ratios were off...
we will also be looking into long term treatments as contrary to what my gyno said (that pregnancy cures it.. ya right doc) the endo says it's for life and i need to treat myself as tho i have diabetes or i will get it. as i am already a stones throw away from being diabetic if i load up on chicken fingers fries and craft dinner (yes that was a poke at all of you.. you know who you are!). she highly recommends the south beach diet as well.
well thats all i can think to say right now about that other than ive been talking with my public health nurse about starting up a support group here in the area for pcos once im healthier (mind body and soul) and hayls is older of course.
