Journal Entry for January 23, 2008 Mood
Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Wow, I just realized I haven't written in a while.  It's been so crazy busy here.  I think I have Jacob back on his schedule after flying back to the west coast for Christmas for 3 weeks.  Boy, we all love it back home where my family is.  It's so beautiful and the kids just love to get out and explore...even Jacob.  He loved the beaches up and down Washington and Oregon.  And, I tell you...we have a born and bread sailor in our midst.  My Mom and Dad were amazed at how well he controlled the 42' sailboat.  He did exactly what they said.  But, then they thought it was really up his alley and he has always been fascinated with them!  He was sooo thrilled to have done it again!  It was bloody cold though!  BRRRR!

When we got back home, we were told there was a proposal that the kids from our subdivision and the two next to ours would be bussed to a brand new school next year which is 3.5 miles away.  We were floored as our kids are within walking distance of their elementary school and Jr. High as it is now.  So, I have been out petitioning this.  They also proposed bussing in two other subdivisions from the next town over to take our place at our current school!  All I can say is EEEK - I can't  imagine this change for Jacob as he's been doing fairly well socially, great academically.  He had a pretty bad meltdown after hearing about this.  He heard it from his sister, who heard it from a kid that brought it up in class and the teacher tried to calm the class down.  My daughter took it as stone and then informed Jacob and our youngest, who is to start K next year.  We didn't want to tell them anything until the final decision was published.  However, on the bright side....it looks like the board is really hearing us out.

Jacob's stomach and little aches and pains still continue.  I know a lot has to deal with constipation, which in turn is eating habits.  I just don't understand it.  He does eat fairly well.  I've had to turn to Benefiber.  It has been miraculous.  It is odorless, tasteless and mixes well, even with water.  He calls it his medicine water.  I only give him 1 tsp. every day and every now and then, I skip two days because he does eat fairly well.  It has really helped with his bowels.  However, after ready much on the Leaky Gut Syndrome, I'm really wondering if I'm just treating the symtoms and not getting to a cure.  He has had constant constipation problems since he was an infant.  We never did rice, only oatmeal...to the point where I mixed only prunes with it in the mornings and he ate tons of that.  We went to his actual pediatrician and have been referred to an endocrinolgist (sp?) to see if we can get more answers.  I'm hoping we do.  It's very frustrating!!  I just want him healthy in the ways of his bowels finally.  I know it bothers him.  It's pretty interesting to have a kid who talks about the food pyramid and believe me, it's NOT his special interest...lol.  I have had to get so creative with textures, tastes, smells...you name it.  I made ginger snaps two days ago - "Mom, what stinks?  Those are cookies?"  I tell him to try them...they look good, so he does.  He tells me, "They taste great!  But, I can't breathe in while I taste them, because they stink so bad!"  I almost hit the floor laughing!  I tried not to smile.  But, on the other hand, my husband is happy.  "You've finally found a cookie where I can come home and have a couple before the kids eat them all!" =)
