First journal entry. Lets do it on a bad day! 8/22/07. Im a group leader(supervisor) at a automotive factory. Each day is a challenge. Not just physically but mentally as well. Working with 12-18 people under me is hard work. Dealing with all the different behaviors, attitudes, ages, genders, opinions etc. I feel like a baby sitter at times. How can a person call themselves grown and mature then act just like a five year old the very next moment?
Had trouble yet again from a woman named Sonya. I have had trouble with her in the past. She use to disregard things I would instruct her to do because I am younger than her. Regardless of age, sex or race it still has to be done the same way. Her thought is that since she is older she could do a better job no problem. I know she would fail and be in the same boat Im in. Getting so frustrated at workers I have to vent on a journal entry on the web. So frustrated I have been thinking about going to therapy. I have a few people in my department that test me but she has to be one of the worst.
We have been working 12 hours a day 6 days a week. Last week I was told to get 5 people who are at the top of the seniority list to work just 8 hours because we are finally getting caught up. Some of the people at the top are nice enough to offer to stay for 12 hours some of the days in order to releave the lower level workers from 12 hours. Even for one day it is enough. Monday comes and Cindy stays 12 and Bryan goes home after 8. Tuesday comes Pam stays 12 and Sonya goes home after 8. Tonight Cindy was willing to stay over again to help out. I asked Bryan(since he was the next in line) if he is still willing to let others below him go home and he said it was ok. I asked Sonya the same thing and she really didnt want to but said ok in the end. She then asked who it would be. I was not sure since I had not looked at the list of who was under her. I just told her it would be the person under her.
I tell Shaun that he can go home after 8 hours. Shaun thanks me but I tell him to thank Cindy, Brayn and Sonya since they are the ones who are staying. At 12am(1 hour after Shaun had left) I get word that Sonya is pissed because Shaun left. I take Sonya aside and ask if she is upset about something and she says yes because Shaun had left and he had only been working there a month. I then explained the generosity that the other workers and herself were displaying by giving everyone a break. She replied with it would be ok but she had paid her time and since they had only been there a month then they should have to stick out the 12 hours until the overtime ends(who knows when that will be).
I explained to her how she was able to get off after 8 hours the night before and she again rambled something about the new people and that she was tired. I told her we are all tired, are all human and all need a break from time to time. She still did not understand what I was telling her. I told her we are trying to work together as a team and be kind to each other and she didnt like that. Instead she mouthed off that she would be speaking to a higher manager and a few minutes later I got a phone call saying Sonya was leaving early for the night after only 9 hours of the 12.
