    • About Me

Married my best friend April 14, 2007. He is incredibly supportive of me and that is tough to do because I am a terrible patient! We both are chronic pain sufferers and are used to taking care of ourselves and everyone else so having someone care for us takes a bit of getting used to! Both of us seem to be getting worse rather than better.I am a Educational/Psychology Professional and work with children/adolescents with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders which can be very challenging even on my good days! I am a mother of two wonderful girls ages 15 and 20. I'd like to say that I have come to terms with my illness but funky things will happen to my body;numbness in various parts of my body, thyroid goes haywire, etc. Right now , it seems to be attacking all of my connective tissues/joints....with lupus-stay tuned! I am trying very hard not be a victim to my disease.

I enjoy swimming, spending time with my family, reading, sketching, and listening to music and eating ice cream.Of course I also enjoy and relish an afternoon nap! If my body allows it, I love to take the horses for a ride and go over a few jumps!

      From guysgurl Yesterday

Thanks so much Lyn! I hope you are healing and recovering well from your surgery! Things here are actually moving in the right direction. Amy is still broke up with her bf, she is coming to sit down and talk to me and my husband soon (hopefully in the next week), to go over our conditions of her living here. She's come by twice to talk to me, and she knows everything already, and she says she wants to. She would rather be restricted and safe. She is staying with a friend & his parents temporarily (but can't for much longer), and I think she is having a hard time making the final break from the Juggalo group. This friend has been a real support to her while making the break from the bf, and I think she is emotionally attached to him because of that. She wants to return to school, get a job, apologized for what she's put me through, and says she is thankful for the little things in life. She says she doesn't want that life anymore. She seems sincere, and I am just praying for guidance to be able to fully help her start back on the better path, counseling included. Oh... sorry this is a long 'hugback'.. Take care!!

HI Lynr, It's been raining here in Houston all day and I don't have to tell you what my day has been like. Not even pain meds are effective. Do you and husband have those kind of days? The only thing I can do is take ambien and sleep.Have you guys tried this ? .

Lyn, you have a wonderful way with words. All your replies to my post have been so uplifting to me. It's like my angels are speaking through you! I really do go and read what you've written again and again. And your posts today were just more icing on my cake. I've printed them off to take with me tomorrow while I get my infusion of Tysabri (I'm there 2-3 hours). You are a sweetheart!! Take care..

    • Close Lupus

Formal diagnosis in late 2006 early 2007 after biopsy of full body rash, numerous other tests, and extensive review of medical history. Honestly, it has connected a lot of dots for me (and docs)-have had years and years of unexplained medical issues. Have had some pretty rough times (kidneys shut down, thyroid out of whack, etc) but the lupus seems to primarily affect my connective tissue area and lots of pain in my joints. I try my best to stay on top of this disease! I love water therapy!

      Treatments

      Plaquenil Working / Worked
appears to help with the rash although I am not doing real well with the eye exams.
      Prednisone Working / Worked
Have difficulty tolerating even half doses; don't sleep, don't east and I feel like killing everyone in sight!
      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
I live for my water! Swimming cant do now because of my shoulders floating soaking in the jacuzzi or tub you name Im there! Takes all the pressure off the jointsAhhhhhhh!
    • Close Parenting Teenagers (12-18)

I have two beautiful girls ages 15 and 20. My oldest has made a life for herself in South Carolina (school and work) and I share custody of my younger daughter with my ex. Life gets a bit complicated and overwhelming at times trying to keep up with everything (live in 2 places, work full time in a very demanding career with children/adolescents with psychiatric and behavioral issues) while dealing with my chronic health issues. I'm recently remarried and he knows how important the kids are!

      Treatments

      Patience Working / Worked
Listen, really listen to your children! It's so important to know what is going on in thier lives!
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
It's so important to work through issues as they arise- stuffing them will cause resentments and will make you sick!
    • Open Chronic Pain

Hi, I was diagnosed with lupus (SLE) in January 2007, I knew there had to be more going on than just than just the degenerative disc disorder-as if that isn't bad enough! My back is bad; a blown

      Treatments

      Heat Working / Worked
I love my heating pad but find that moist heat works best!
      Lidoderm Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes they work for spot areas of pain in the joints during bad weather days.
      Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
I get facet injections every 8-10 weeks and they work great-epidurals did not help.
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
The oxycontin helps considerably for long term pain relief-the vicodin wasn't cutting it!
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
It really helps but the insurance won't pay for continued treatment. Due to a steel rod and titanium plate in my leg I walk with a limp so I undo the treatment and need to go back every week.
      Topamax Considering
Didn't know this was a treatment option for pain. Have been prescribed this in the past but not for the pain and I lost alot of weight.
    • Open Back Pain

Blown L-3, L-4,L-5, and S-1 are herniated. Had major leg surgery which realigned my spine- one sneeze two years later and that was it!

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
      Has helped in the past.
      Epidural Injection Working / Worked
These didn't work, I get facet injections every 8-10 weeks now and they help tremendously.
      Heat Working / Worked
The heating pad feels good but nothing replaces the hot baths or the hot tub!
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
I go in every years or so when I absolutely can't stand it any more. The leg surgery that I had has left permanent damage and it causes the right hip to rotate back which curves the lower portion of my back:(
      Stretching Working / Worked
Have to do this before I even get out of bed!
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
Was taking vicodin but I was dxd with lupus in January of 07 doc switch me to something I didnt have to take as often. It helps keep the pain to a dull roar.
